My name is Emily, and I help adults speak English with confidence - through real conversation, not text books!I qualified as an English teacher in 2014, but soon after I started my first job in an English language academy in Spain, I realised the traditional way to teach English was simply not for me.I didn't feel inspired by the text books and prescribed curriculum that I had to follow, or the tasks I had to set. I could see that my lack of inspiration was affecting my students' motivation, too.I was also really frustrated at the way the big language certificates ask students to "tick boxes" - making them prove that they know a certain number of words and expressions. In my experience, this doesn't inspire mastery or fluency of the language. It just gets you all blocked up and worried about "getting it right".Now I teach English in my own way - by proposing a random topic (which I can tailor to your specific interests if you want) and using that as a springboard to dive into an animated and lively discussion on pretty much anything we can think of!You will get to practice reading, writing and listening in your own time before the lesson, and speaking-speaking-speaking (and some listening, of course!) during the lesson.I believe it's not what you know, but how you use it that counts. So let's get you started with using English in the real world!
______As a traveller with an insatiable curiosity and love for learning, I see language as a way of connecting with and learning from other human beings.I speak fluent Spanish and Italian and I am learning Serbian, so I understand personally what it means to learn a second language. I can help you overcome the difficulties common to language learners in a supportive and fun way.Learning other languages has opened up the world, deep conversations and my heart during my personal travels, and I dream of sharing that experience with my English students.During our one-to-one lessons, I encourage you to explore the world we live in from the comfort of your own home. We listen and learn from each other, and the whole time, we’re speaking and learning English! My interests are varied, ranging from sustainability and the environment, geography, psychology (human and dog!), history, culture, yoga and meditation, travel, child development, alternative lifestyles and education and - of course - learning languages. Our conversations might follow these themes, but I love to follow what my students are interested in too, and I will encourage you to share your passions with me so I can tailor our lessons to your needs! These private lessons are for adult intermediate and advanced English speakers from all around the world. You will learn to:
• think critically on a wide variety of subjects.
• communicate your ideas clearly.
